People in Papua New Guinea

People in Papua New Guinea (PNG) were all very friendly. Everybody smiled.

Port Moresby, the capital of PNG is a busy city with a population of about 400,000. Apparently it is not a very safe city, I didn't walk around much.

I saw a few of the local villages, fishing villages around Port Moresby, villages in the interior rely on their own agriculture. Tourism is not very widespread.

A lot of transportation is on rivers and by air, many areas don't have long distance roads.

Sago Palms (Metroxylon sagu, german: Sagopalme, french: Sagoutier). The stems are used to make sago, a starchy food, the leaves are used for roofing material, and the wood is used for building walls. (1265k)

Transportation

A lot of transportation is done by small planes, since there are not many roads in the interior. (1150k)

Much commercial air traffic is done with small turboprop planes. (645k)

The signs in the airplanes are in English and Tok Pisin, an English creole language. If I read the Tok Pisin loud in German style pronunciation, I can understand it. (570k)
