I spent two days in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It was a fantastic visit. I saw a lot of animals, including a lot of birds.

Later I visited Lake Nakuru for a day. Again the number of birds was astounding. There were lots of pelicans and flamingos and other wading birds.

Among the birds in Maasai Mara was the Somali Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori struthiunculus, german: Riesentrappe, french: Outarde kori), the heaviest bird capable of flight. Males are 1.1 m (3.6 ft) long and 0.6-0.9 m (2.0-3.0 ft) tall. The heaviest birds can weigh over 20 kg (40 lb).
