NEW ENGLAND AEROBATIC CHAMPIONSHIPS - Round 3
The New England Aerobatic Club, IAC Chapter 35, invites you to join us for the 2000 New England Aerobatic Championships on May 19-21, no that’s not right, July 7-9, darn, that won’t work, how about Sept. 8-10, yes, that’s it, Sept. 8-10, at Orange Municipal Airport, Orange, Massachusetts. The box will be open beginning Thursday the 7th for practice and registration.
This is our annual springtime (with the terrible weather we’ve had this Summer, it may seem like Spring in September) five category (power) contest. The three-day format will provide the best possible opportunity for all pilots of all categories to fly a full set of flights.
At press time, we are still working on blocks of rooms at the Colonial and at Wachusette Village Inns. If you call either of these two hotels please ask for the International Aerobatic Club block rate.

WE CAME, WE SAW, WE KICKED SOME ASS!
The Pennsylvania Aerobatic Championships were held June 2 – 4 in Maytown, PA. Chapter 35 was well represented. Once again Larry Bashore and company put together another wonder competition with lots of flying. Basic, Sportsman and Intermediate flew 2 flights while Advanced and Unlimited flew 3 times. No team trophy was presented but Chapter 35 walked away with most of the lumber, carried primarily by the lower categories. In fact, I’m sure we were way over gross and aft CG on the way home.

2nd Blair Mohn 58 76.17%

David Groft won best first time Sportsman competitor (beginner’s luck) – Oh, I guess that’s the point! Dave Watson won the Grassroots award, and the Pitts trophy was probably won by somebody flying a Pitts.

YAK BOYS?
Ok, so the rumor is out. Another Chapter 35 member goes Commie, but not before fully testing the structural integrity of the aluminum and titanium overcast of the Yak 55 to its limits. Once convinced that the Yak 55 could withstand the grueling Sportsman routine, Craig’s new partner decided to test the Yak 55’s Maximum Demonstrated Cross-up Capabilities. This is similar to the Maximum Demonstrated Crosswind Capabilities, but without the wind. You can picture this can’t you? Maiden flight, 1st landing, touchdown at 160 km/h (what the hell is a km/h anyway) wing spar 30 degrees (or is that pi/6 radians) to the runway centerline, need I say more? Thank goodness, the only real causality was Craig’s (and the pilot’s) underwear. Hey, after an auspicious start like this, the partnership is golden – I hope! See you all in Unlimited Next Year!

MICHIGAN RESULTS
Neville Hogan snuck off to Michigan, by himself, and was rumored to get 2nd in Sportsman.
Confucius say - If a lone Sportsman flies off into the wilderness and nobody is there to see it – did it really happen?

BOK TALK
It has been a hectic year for us so far. We have only had one "local" contest this year even though we are well into the contest year. The Maytown contest was held in the beginning of June at which Chapter 35 was well represented as noted in the contest results elsewhere in the newsletter. Our Orange contest was cancelled due to poor weather conditions and has been rescheduled for September 8 - 10 with practice beginning on August 7. I want to acknowledge the efforts of Steve Pennypacker, our CD, as well as everyone else involved who have been working so hard to make our contest happen. As far as other contests in the immediate future are concerned, we have the Kathy Jaffe Challenge at Monticello, NY being held on August 11 - 13 and the Springfield, VT contest being held on August 26 - 27 with August 25 being a practice day. I hope to see you there.
There will be a Chapter meeting on August 19 at Mansfield Airport at 11:00 with a practice session taking place afterwards (if weather permits). This meeting is important as it is the last time we get together before our Springfield Contest and Orange contest and there are many items to be reviewed. Please try to attend.
